பாடசாலை வரலாறு

வட இலங்கையின் யாழ் மாவட்டத்தின் தென்கிழக்குப் பிரதேசத்தில் மேற்கே மணற்காடு தொடக்கம் கிழக்கே சுண்டிக்குளம் வரையாக ஏறத்ததாழ 50km நீளமுடைய ஒடுங்கிய நிலப்பகுதியே வடமராட்சிக்கிழக்கு என்றழைக்கப்படும் மருதங்கேணி பிரதேசம் ஆகும். இப் பிரதேசத்தின் மத்தியில் அமைந்துள்ள உடுத்துறை எனும் அழகிய கிராமத்திலேயே யாஃஉடுத்துறை மகா வித்தியாலயம் எனும் எமது பாடசாலை கலங்கரை விளக்கமாக அமைந்து எமது மாணவர்களுக்கு கல்வி அறிவூட்டிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

இப்பாடசாலை ஆனது 1852 ஆம் ஆண்டு அப்போதைய ஆங்கிலேய ஆட்சியாளர்களாலும் கிறிஸ்தவ மதகுருமார்களின் அமைப்பினாலும் சேர்ந்து உடுத்துறை ஸ்ரேசன் பாடசாலை என்ற பெயரில் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. பின்னர் இலங்கை சுதந்திரம் அடைந்த பின்பு (1948) உடுத்துறை சீ.சீ.த.க பாடசாலை எனவும் பின்னர் 1969-1970 காலப்பகுதியில் உடுத்துறை மகா வித்தியாலயம் எனப் பெயர் பெற்றது.

1980- 1995 வரையான காலப்பகுதியல் பாடசாலையில் சுமார் 800 மாணவர்கள் கற்றிருந்தார்கள். பின் 1990 இற்கு பிறகு நாட்டில் ஏற்பட்ட அசாதாரண சூழ்நிலை காரணமாக ஏற்பட்ட உயிரிழப்பு, அங்வீனம், உடமையிழப்பு, இடப்பெயர்வு காரணமாக இப்பிரதேசத்தில் சடுதியாக மக்கள் தொகை குறைந்தது. இதன் காரணமாக பாடசாலையிலும் மாணவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை பல மடங்காக வீழ்ச்சியடைந்தது. அத்துடன் பல சமயங்களில் பாடசாலை இடப்பெயர்வை சந்தித்ததுடன் பல மாதங்களாக இயங்கா நிலையிலும், தற்காலிகமாக வேறுபாடசாலைகளிலும் இயங்கவேண்டிய சூழ்நிலை ஏற்பட்டது.

இவ்வாறு மாறி மாறி பல இடங்களுக்கு இடம்பெயர்ந்து மீள 2003 ம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து தனது சொந்த இடத்தில் இயங்கி வந்தது. இச்சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் 2004 டிசம்பர் 26 ஏற்பட்ட ஆழிப்பேரலை (சுனாமி) அனர்த்தத்தில் இப் பாடசாலையை சேர்ந்த 61 மாணவர்களும் 2 ஆசிரியர்களும் காவுகொள்ளப்பட்டனர். இச்சம்பவம் எமது பாடசாலை வரலாற்றில் ஒரு நீங்காத துயராக இருந்து வருகின்றது.
இதனை தொடர்ந்து 2007 ம் ஆண்டு இடம்பெயர்ந்த எமது பாடசாலை மீள 2010.09.23 இலிருந்து தனது சொந்த இடத்தில் இயங்கி வந்தது. இச்சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் எமது பாடசாலை முற்றாக அழிவடைந்திருந்தது. மாணவர்கள் கல்வி கற்பதற்கு எந்தவொரு தற்காலிக வகுப்பறை கூட இல்லாத நிலையில் மாணவர்கள் மர நிழல்களிலேயே கல்வி கற்று வந்தனர். இந்நிலையில் 2011 ம் ஆண்டின் முற்பகுதியில் நுசேநீ திட்டத்தின் கீழ் இரண்டு கட்டடங்கள் புனரமைக்கப்பட்டு தரப்பட்டது. அதனை தொடந்து சுவிஸ் அபிவிருத்தி நிறுவனத்தினால் ( Swiss Development Corporation-SDC ) 25.9 மில்லியன் ரூபா செலவில் எமது பாடசாலை முழுவதுமாக புனரமைக்கப்பட்டு 2013.09.05 அன்று எம்மிடம் சம்பிரதாயபூர்வமாக கையளிக்கப்பட்டது. (சுவிஸ் அபிவிருத்தி நிறுவனத்தி-னால் 2004 ம் ஆண்டே புனரமைப்புக்காக எமது பாடசாலை தத்தெடுக்கப்பட்டதுடன் சில காரணங்களால் அவை இடைநிறுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது).
இந்நிலையில் கல்வி அமைச்சினால் 2012 முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டுவரும் ஆயிரம் பாடசாலை அபிவிருத்தி திட்டத்தின் கீழ் ஒரு பிரதேச செயலக பிரிவில் இரண்டு பாடசாலைகள் என்ற அடிப்படையில் மருதங்கேணி பிரதேச செயலக பிரிவில் எமது பாடசாலை உள்வாங்கப்பட்டு அபிவருத்தி செய்யப்பட்டு வருகிறது. அதன் ஒரு கட்டமாக எமது பாடசாலையில் உள்ள ஆரம்ப பிரிவை (தரம் 1-5) தனியாக பிரித்து 2012.02.16 இலிருந்து யா/உடுத்துறை இந்து ஆரம்ப பாடசாலை என்ற பெயரில் எமது பாடசாலைக்கான ஊட்டப் பாடசாலையாக இயங்கி வருகின்றது. இன்று எமது பாடசாலை தரம் 06 இலிருந்து 13 வரை சிறப்புற இயங்கி வருகின்றது. ஆயிரம் பாடசாலை அபிவிருத்தி திட்டத்தின் இன்னொரு கட்டமாக 20 மில்லியன் ரூபா செலவில் தொழில்நுட்ப ஆய்வுகூடமொன்று நிர்மாணிக்கப்பட்டு மாணவர்கள் பாவனைக்காக வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

2013 இல் எமது பாடசாலையில் மீள உயர்தரத்திற்கான வணிக பிரிவு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டதுடன் (1998 ம் ஆண்டே எமது பாடசாலையில வணிக பிரிவு ஆரம்பித்திருந்தமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. 2013.07.12 இலிருந்து 1AB பாடசாலையாக தரமுயர்த்தப்பட்ட எமது பாடசாலை 2015 இருந்து உயர்தரத்திற்கான கணித, விஞ்ஞான பிரிவுகள் ஆரம்பித்ததுடன் 2016 ஆம் வருடத்திலிருந்து தொழில்நுட்ப பிரிவும் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. தொடர்ந்து கணித பிரிவில் எமது பாடசாலையிலிருந்து 2017-ல் க.பொ.த(உ.த) பரீட்சைக்கு தோற்றிய மாணவி பல்கலைக்கழகத்திற்கு தெரிவானமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. 2017, 2018 ஆம் ஆண்டுகளில் நடைபெற்ற க.பொ.த(சா.த) பரீட்சையில் 90% ,ற்கும் அதிகமான சித்தி வீதத்தை பெற்றுக்கொண்டமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. மேலும் 2018 ஆம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்ற க.பொ.த(சா.த) பரீட்சையில் கணித பாடத்தில் 100% சித்திவீதத்தை பெற்றுக்கொண்டமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. மேலும் 2018 ஆம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து எமது பாடசாலையானது 13 ஆண்டு கல்வித் திட்டத்திற்குள் உள்வாங்கப்பட்டு அதற்கான அபிவித்திப் பணிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகின்றமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. தற்பொழுது 2021 ஆம் தேசிய பாடசாலைக்குள் உள்வாங்கப்பட்டு அதற்கான அபிவிருத்திப் பணிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

History of School

J/Uduthurai Mahavidyalayam is located in Uduthurai village of Maruthankerny Division, which is popularly knowns as Vadamaraachi East. The Vadamaraachi East division is spread out around 50 square kilometers in the Eastern part of Jaffna and shares border with Sundikulam in the South, Palai in the West and Pointpedro in the North. This school is the one and only A-Grade school that cater to the education needs of the children between the grades 6^th and G.C.E (O/L) in Maruthankerny Division, Jaffna district. This school was started as the first school in 1852 jointly by the British and Christian Priests, in the name of Station School. Though the uncertainties caused by war forced the people of this region to displace themselves in and outside the country, the school continues to run for those remained living in these villages. During the Tsunami disaster in 2004, this school underwent severe destructions with 52 children and three teachers becoming death tolls and majority losing their loved ones and assets.

In 2007, the escalation of civil war had forced the school dysfuntctional as there was several disappearances of the children and teachers. Therefore, in order to safeguard the children, support and sustain their education needs, the school was displaced to Mullaitivu and had functioned there for three years till 2010.

In 2010, as part of the resettlement process, the concerned stakeholders joined together to restart the school’s activities in Uduthurai itself. The Emergency Northern Rehabilitation Project (EN-REP) has supported the school with initial infrastructure development, to restart the school activities. Further, Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) through the Ministry of Education has supported for the construction of classrooms and other buildings, to strengthen children receiving quality education. Further, in 2015, under the Thousand School Development Project, this school got benefitted with receiving Technological Laboratory. In 2016, the school has built its capacities to promote the science students and hence, the science stream for the G.C.E (A/L) students have been started. This school has upgraded the school to I-AB Super Grade, which is the only school that has been awarded with this grade in Maruthankerny Division.

In 2018, under the 13 Year Education Programme, this school has been included as only one school in this DS Office Division. Under this programme, the dropouts or discontinued or disinterested children in the G.C.E (O/L) will be provided vocational opportunities, so as to support their life. The school has planned to start National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) certification programme to benefit the dropout/discontinued students from this locality.

Other than education activities, the school is promoting the extra-curricular activities of the students. It is evident that in 2018, the school students participated in the Provincial Level Sports Competition. The school also produced athletes, who have participated in the National level sports competitions.

In the academics too, the school has produced best students. It is remarkable that in 2018, a student has top scored in G.C.E (O/L) with 9As. In 2017, a student has participated in the National level Social Science Competition and won first place. Since 2016, every year there are students getting selected for University Courses from this school.
